Mental Health and Performance Coach
Coaching and consulting for athletes and performing artists.
My goal is never to “fix” anyone, but to EMPOWER performers, using science backed, RESULTS DRIVEN methods, so they thrive and MAXIMIZE THEIR POTENTIAL on and off the playing field, stage, or the classroom.
A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Max attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland before obtaining his Masters in Counseling with a concentration in Sport Psychology from Boston University. During his graduate studies, Max worked at the Yale University Cedarhurst School, helping students one-on-one in the classroom and around campus throughout the school day.
His experience at Cedarhurst as a teacher’s aid combined with his background as a collegiate varsity lacrosse player and his work as Head of Mental Performance at both Watertown High School and Emmanuel College set the foundation for his current role as the Head of Mental Health and Performance at Christchurch School (CCS) in Virginia.
Since joining the staff in 2022, Max has launched the school’s first Mental Health and Performance program, the first program of its kind in boarding and prep schools, and spearheaded the successful expansion and rebranding of the school’s counseling center and health services department to accommodate additional programing and a second counselor. Fully embedded in campus life, Max advises students everywhere - whether it be on the playing field, in the cafeteria, dorms, or in the classroom. In these settings, he is working with them individually, or in a group workshop, to help better navigate the stressors of being a high performing athlete, artist, or academic achiever.
In addition to his work at CCS, Max is a private counselor at Chesapeake Counseling and serves as an independent consultant and workshop leader for college athletic programs.

Testimonials
-
“We knew we had something special with Max during his nearly two-year tenure with us, but it wasn’t until the season after Max left that we recognized how much he had resonated with our staff and student-athletes.”
- Daniel Roberts, Former Emmanuel College Head Men's Soccer Coach

"Max combines a great personality and a significant ability to relate and communicate on many different levels. Because of this, he completed his time with our program with the utmost respect of everyone connected with him. In my year working with Max, it was immediately obvious how responsible, adaptable, and talented he was. Max could always be counted on no matter what was asked of him"
- Danny Lawson, Former Emmanuel College Men's Basketball Coach, and current UMBC Assistant Coach

“Max started his work with us remotely during covid, and joined in person once we were able to return to campus. Upon returning, we felt that we were ahead of the curve in terms of team dynamics/chemistry and this carried us to a perfect 4-0 record for the spring season. Max’s contributions to the team were immense to our overall success and imperative in helping establish a culture for our team, particularly in such a challenging time. As a Captain of the team during this period, I cannot say enough about the work that Max put in to help myself, as well as the overall team, through such a mentally and physically demanding time of my soccer career.”
- Robert Danielian, Emmanuel College Men’s Soccer Captain, ‘21-’22

“Max is able to use his expertise to educate not only a diverse group of student-athletes from all over the world, but also our coaches on campus in how our emotions play an integral role in our performance. In athletics, we all know that within competition there are a lot of emotions that take place, but they are often overlooked when evaluating performance especially at the high school level. I feel that at Christchurch School, we have the edge on our competition knowing our student athletes have training in self-awareness, mental toughness and communication from their training with Max.”
- John Dehm, Athletic Director, Christchurch School
